The Associated Press Style Stylebook (AP)
For shortform writing, used by newspapers, magazines and public relations industry. Increasingly, some AP guidelines are used by writers in longform writing as a personal style preference. Available in print or as an online edition.
The Elements of Style by William Strunk and E.B. White
Published widely in 1920, it is in its Fourth Edition. This guide focuses on the American writing style promoting plain English. It is concise, direct, and a timeless addition to any writer’s shelf.

Dreyer’s English: An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style by Benjamin Dreyer. A somewhat humorous and incisive take on the rules and “nonrules” of the English language from his experience as the Editor in Chief + Copy Chief of Random House. An excellent reference for any writer who revels within the nuances of rules.
