Congratulations to Alamance County Student Writers!
The Burlington Writers Club annually sponsors the Student Writing Contest to recognize exceptional student writers in Alamance County. The contest is made possible in part by a grant through the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, and Alamance Arts.
An Award Ceremony was held at Alamance Community College on April 28, 2024. A total of 39 schools submitted 359 entries from grades 3-12: 1 private school, 3 home schools, 2 charter schools, and 33 public schools. Contest entries broken down by category: elementary school poetry, 103; middle school poetry, 20; high school poetry, 26; elementary school fiction, 162; middle school fiction, 43; high school fiction, 5. Thank you so much to all who made this endeavor possible including ABSS administrators, county educators, members of the Burlington Writers Club who managed the count-wide flow of paperwork, and to the judges for their invaluable critiques of the 359 entries.
