The Writers’ Hour with The London Writers Salon – Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry (Virtual)
Virtual daily writing sprints with people around the world helps build a writing habit. There are 8am daily sessions Monday through Friday to choose from, including 8am EST and 8am PST (11am EST). The first 14 days are free as a trial, and a suggested donation of $11.00 per month thereafter.
NYC Midnight is a popular international creative writing organization known for its high-stakes timed writing competitions. Participants receive specific genre and prompt assignments and must write and submit stories within tight deadlines—typically on minute before midnight. The NYC Midnight entry fee is typically $55-$65; however, the feedback component of the contest is highly rated.

Bookmarks Festival – September 26, 2026.
From their website: Bookmarks hosts the largest annual book festival in North and South Carolina, drawing 20,000 attendees from 30 + states. The Festival showcases 50+ authors from around the country through a variety of events, with a focus on diverse programming that appeals to readers of all ages.
Carolina Mountains Literary Festival | Yancey | North Carolina Writers’ Network – September 10 – 12, Burnsville, NC
From their website: In response to the challenges the region has faced in the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival is offering a special one-day mini-festival this fall—designed not only to keep the literary spirit alive, but to raise critical funds for a full festival return in 2026. While this year’s gathering is smaller in scale, it’s rich in heart and purpose, spotlighting powerful voices and bringing our community together in support of the festival’s future.
The festival will take place on Saturday, September 6 with a keynote author talk with beloved Southern writer Margaret Renkl, a poetry workshop with acclaimed poet Nickole Brown, and the always-popular Book Buzz celebration at Plott Hound Books.
