
Barbara Presnell’s latest book is Otherwise, I’m Fine: A Memoir, published this spring by the University of South Carolina Press. It’s her first full-length non-fiction prose bool, bus since completing her MFA at UNC-Greensboro many years ago, she’s written poetry, plays, newspaper columns, and more. Her poetry includes Piece Work, about the North Carolina textile industry, told in the voices of its workers, which was adapted to stage by the Touring Theatre Ensemble of NC and presented at community colleges across North Carolina (including Alamance Community College). Her stage play, Company K: From Asheboro to the Fields of France, commissioned by the city of Asheboro, continues to be performed and was recently filmed for PBS showing and as an educational tool for teaching of WWI in NC public schools. She’s a recipient of many fellowships and awards, including the NC Arts Council Fellowship and the Linda Flowers Prize from the NC Humanities Council. In addition, she’s been teaching writing for over 40 years to students of all ages. She recently retired as Senior Lecturer Emerita from UNC-Charlotte, and she lives in Lexington, NC, with her husband, journalist Bill Keesler, and rescue dog, Colby.
